Welcome aboard the SAM Shortline Excursion Train or new Southwest Georgia Excursion Train and discover the real Georgia! Passengers enjoy riding in air conditioned vintage cars from 1949 with its charm and romance, delivering a yesteryear feel with the excitement of the today's new South. The SAM Shortline journeys past pecan groves including country farms while making stops in four towns. These towns are filled with fun attractions, shopping, and restaurants to enjoy. The best part is if you step off the train, no problem, you can catch it back on the return trip. You also have the opportunity to spend an evening at a wonderful and charming hotel and resume the train excursion the very next day.

 

 

The SAM Shortline Excursion Train hosts the annual Day Out with Thomas and offers multiple stops from East to West including destinations like the City of Cordele, Georgia Veterans State Park, City of Leslie, City of Americus, City of Plains and City of Archery, Georgia. Other great attractions include the Georgia Veterans State Park and Military Museum, Lake Blackshear Resort & Golf Club, The Rural Telephone Museum, Habitat for Humanity’s Global Village, Café Campesino, The Beautiful Rylander Theatre, The Windsor Hotel, President Carter’s Campaign Museum and President Carter’s Boyhood Home in Archery.
